The Smog Glossary is a consumer reference published under the Cal Auto Doors label and operated by Cal Smog Network, a California smog check station network.
Every entry on this site is rendered verbatim from the Cal Smog Network canonical answer library — a single maintained library of 215 answers about the California Smog Check Program. Facts in the library are verified against public program sources: the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (bar.ca.gov), the California DMV (dmv.ca.gov), and the California Air Resources Board (arb.ca.gov).
The library is re-verified when the Bureau of Automotive Repair changes program rules, and corrected entries republish to every surface that uses the library. This build reflects verification through 2026-07-16.
Answers are written in plain English, sourced only from the public program rules above, and published without paraphrase from the canonical library — a fix to any fact is made once, in the library, then republished here. This site does not publish prices for individual stations, paid placements inside answers, or medical/legal advice.
